My Qiviut is a blend of 70% qiviut, 20% merino wool & 10% silk. The wool and silk add a little extra strength to the qiviut fiber. If you are interested in 100% Qiviut, I can generally obtain that from another outlet but it won’t be qiviut that I have sourced from Musk Ox near Nome, Alaska.
My dog fur is a blend of 50% dog fur & 50% wool. The dog fur comes from my sled dogs. While I have retired from dog mushing and no longer live in Nome, Alaska, I have a goodly amount of dog fur and will be knitting with it until it is gone.
Other fibers (besides qiviut and dog fur/wool blend) include mohair, cashmere, bison, alpaca, angora, camel, and various combinations of these. Look at the photos to see samples of my work. Most of my headbands and hats have a fleece lining. This provides added warmth and stability. The headbands have a velcro closure so they are somewhat adjustable in size.
Double knitting is a technique where two “right” sides are knitted at the same time. The resulting fabric is double and if there is a design in the knitting, the design is on both sides, the garment is reversible.
Gaiters (also called cowls) are about 10″ in height. Headscarves (also called Smoke Rings) are 17″ or more in height and are able to be worn over the head and around the neck – an extra long gaiter/cowl.
Prices do not include shipping costs. I use the Postal Service which can add $10-$20 to the cost.
