These are 3 siblings: Knit, Purl & Lord Kitchener. If you’re a knitter, kitchener will be a word you know. It’s a special stitch connecting two sides of a garment making a seamless connection, used most often for shoulder joints, toes of socks and tops of mittens. These pups were born in December of 2012. Only Purl is still with us – well into her 13th year of life. The pup in the sled is Copper. She is an auntie of Knit, Purl & Kitchner. The pups mom, Carbon, and Copper were sisters.
My dog family is very small now that I have left Alaska and am no longer a kennel owner/musher. But here are some photos that show what life in Nome with a yard full of sled dogs looked like.
